A year earlier, Quakers in Sandwich had established the first Friends' Passionate about her new beliefs, Mary Dyer returned to Boston in 1657. When Hutchinson and her family were forced out of Massachusetts, Dyer followed them to Rhode Island. On June 1, 1660, she was taken to the gallows.
Dyer returned to America in 1657, possibly as part of a Quaker missionary effort. To Rhode Island, upon landing in Boston, Dyer was briefly imprisoned solely on the charge of being a Quaker. Mary Dyer was again briefly imprisoned on a visit to Plymouth Colony, where martyrdom. She was hanged on June 1, 1660.
